| Advices for you

We will guide you from the house you are moving out of to the celebration in your new home.

Before the move

1. How far in advance must I plan it? Can I take a day off to do the move?

Three weeks with no rush. Please note that your children should not be in the house on the transfer day.

Yes, you can ask for a day's leave but with limitations. Thus, epigraph c of article 37 of the Statute of Workers. Pay attention, this is not possible when: the  move is to vacation house, you do fumigations, intensive cleaning or works of any type".

2. Inform the Property Agent and President that you are leaving. Notify the neighbours the transfer and protect the lift with cardboard so that it does not get dirty when you go down with your objects.

You must always inform the President and Property Agent that you are leaving. Be polite until the last day and avoid disturbing others. Protect the furniture corners with cardboard. This will help both the furniture and the walls of the building, as it will be your duty to repair any damage to the common areas during the move.

3. On the lookout for damage in the home that you leave: Do the taps work? are there broken handles? is the paintwork peeling? etc.

Are you a tenant? Then at the beginning of the contract you have deposited an amount of money: the rental deposit. If nothing is broken, it will be returned to you in full. However, if you have not given notice of such an eventuality, nor agreed on who will fix it, the Law authorizes the owner not to return the part of the deposit that covers the repair.

Preparing the move

1. Should I make the transfer myself or is it better to hire a company?

We recommend that you choose an especialized company. In any case, someone should help you.

The Consumer and User Organization estimates the average price of the move at 874 ?. Sepin Editorial has sent us the "Law 15/2009 of the contract of land transport of goods". Check here chapter VIII on "Special rules for the contract of removals". Article 74 establishes the obligations of the carrier.

2. From the inventory, discard the unnecessary:

It is always good to have a complete inventory of what is in your home. That way, you know what you have and... what you can erase.

3.  Estimate the number and size of boxes and the necessary packing material:

In line with the inventory get what you need.

4. Label the boxes on all sides with large and clear letters:

So that nothing is left behind, before putting anything inside the boxes write what is there. We insist on labeling all sides because we have no idea which side the company will put the boxes on. Do it properly: Article 75, section a, exempts the carrier from any deficiencies in the labelling.

5. Prepare a box for each family member and... Think that the transfer also affects any pets.

Put a few changes of clothes and toothbrushes in it so that you can spend the 2 or 3 days after the move until everything is in place. Put the "personal boxes" in the last place on the truck, to identify them at a glance.

A move is stressful for any living being. Now, the human being knows that he is leaving and, above all, why the animal does not. For this reason, La Vanguardia describes in this link how to make the new situation bearable for each type of animal.

6. Protect fragile things

If you buy adhesive tape with the inscription "very fragile", it is essential to indicate in which boxes the most delicate items are placed. In the same way, we recommend you use blankets and clothes -in addition to the obligatory bubble wrap- for computers and other objects that can be broken.

7. What should I pack each object with?

Allianz explains we put the summary:

"Bubble wrap for the most fragile objects, film paper to protect surfaces from scratches or dirt
Reinforced cardboard boxes of different sizes. They are very useful for packing heavy objects such as wardrobes and even for packing clothes vertically.
Wrapping tape and, for greater convenience, a dispenser to make your work easier.
Protective blankets to complement the use of the film on delicate surfaces".

Above all, it packs well: section a of article 75 exempts the carrier for poor packaging.

8. In what order do you pack?

"First the most fragile items and then the largest items. According to the Federation of Removal Companies (FERECO).

9. Pack room by room

Order, order in the room! It's a key point that when you unpack everything is as it should be.

10. Make it easy on yourself: don't use duct tape to close furniture drawers or cabinets

You'll have a hard time getting the glue off later. Use the duct tape only to close the moving boxes.

How can you transport the objects?

1. A little of physics: How to carry a big weight without hurting yourself?

It is advisable not to bend the back but the knees when bending, resting and stretching, and carry the heaviest objects among several. With infinite patience load the boxes one by one and rest. From FERECO they exemplify: "no customer in a fruit shop would carry a 12-kilo box of tomatoes, that job is done by the fruit vendor".

2. What to do with the objects that do not pass through the door?

According to FERECO they should be carefully dismantled or ask for help from professionals to move them correctly and without causing damage.

3. Dismantling is cool... But don't forget neither nuts nor bolts!... Without them you will not be able to reassemble the furniture

The nuts, screws and small parts of the furniture you are going to dismantle, add them with a small bag or in the same seal somewhere in the furniture.

4. To Donate is an option... To sell another one

What if I can't/want to take everything and I know that something I can't take is useful? Donating to an NGO is always a solidarity sign. On the contrary if you need "cash" then to sell is the right thing to do.

5. How to organize the boxes inside the moving truck?

The priority is not to endanger the most fragile things. Therefore, it is important to calculate the space available for each trip and check where you must place the boxes.

Home, sweet home!

Unpack carefully when you arrive at the new house once the box you have prepared for each member of the family has been delivered.

The move is complete and you're in your new home! After some time, you should ask yourself to make one last effort: check that everything is in its place, nothing is broken and your pet or plants are OK. Also, don't forget to put the supplies in your name right away.

2. Give yourself a present!

Feliu by your side.
